Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes 2 large
  • Clean water for washing

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 250°F. Low heat helps dry sweet potatoes slowly and evenly.

Wash Sweet Potatoes

  • Wash sweet potatoes under running water. Remove all dirt from the skin carefully.

Cut Into Sticks

  • Slice sweet potatoes lengthwise. Make long sticks about one inch thick for safe chewing.

Keep Skin On

  • Do not peel sweet potatoes. Skin adds fiber and helps sticks hold shape.

Line Baking Tray

  • Line baking tray with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and burning.

Arrange the Sticks

  • Place sweet potato sticks on tray. Leave space so air flows between pieces.

Start Baking

  • Put tray in oven. Bake slowly for one hour without opening door.

Flip the Sticks

  • After one hour, flip each stick gently. This helps even drying.

Continue Baking

  • Bake for another hour. Sticks should feel dry but slightly chewy inside.

Cool Completely

  • Remove tray from oven. Let chew sticks cool fully before serving dogs.

Check Texture

  • Sticks should bend slightly, not snap. Hard sticks may hurt dog teeth.

Serve Safely

  • Give one chew stick at a time. Always supervise your dog while chewing.

Notes

  • Cut sticks evenly for same cooking time.
  • Use low heat only.
  • Thicker sticks last longer.
  • Thinner sticks dry faster.
  • Always cool before storing.
