Ingredients

  • 4 triggerfish fillets about 6 ounces each
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 lemon sliced or juiced
  • Fresh parsley or dill for garnish

Optional toppings:

  • Capers
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions

Prepare the Fish

  • Rinse triggerfish fillets under cold water and pat dry. This removes excess moisture for better cooking.

Season the Fillets

  • Sprinkle garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper evenly on both sides of each fillet.

Heat the Skillet

  • Add olive oil or butter to a skillet. Heat over medium heat until hot but not smoking.

Cook the Fish

  • Place fillets in the skillet. Cook 3–4 minutes on the first side without moving.

Flip the Fillets

  • Carefully turn fillets using a spatula. Cook another 3–4 minutes until fish is opaque and flakes easily.

Add Lemon Juice

  • Squeeze fresh lemon juice over fillets while cooking or just before serving.

Optional: Add Toppings

  • Add capers, cherry tomatoes, or fresh herbs for extra flavor and a colorful presentation.

Serve Hot

  • Transfer fish to plates. Garnish with parsley or dill. Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.

Optional Baking Method

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place seasoned fillets in a greased baking dish. Bake 12–15 minutes until cooked through.

Enjoy Your Meal

  • Pair with vegetables, rice, or salad. Enjoy the tender, flaky, and flavorful triggerfish fillets.

Notes

  • Pat fish dry before seasoning for better flavor.
  • Use fresh lemon for a bright, fresh taste.
  • Do not overcook triggerfish; it cooks quickly and dries easily.
  • Try grilling triggerfish for a smoky flavor.
  • Use nonstick pans to prevent fish from sticking.
