Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Whisk
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter cold, cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup Milk cold

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and helps biscuits bake evenly. Set aside while you prepare the dough.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make sure everything is evenly combined for consistent biscuits.

Cut in the Butter

  • Add cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until it looks like coarse crumbs. Keep butter cold for fluffy biscuits.

Add Milk

  • Pour cold milk into the flour and butter mixture. Stir gently with a spatula or spoon until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix, or biscuits become tough.

Knead the Dough

  • Place dough on a lightly floured surface. Fold and press the dough 3–4 times until it holds together. Avoid heavy kneading to keep biscuits soft and airy.

Roll and Cut Biscuits

  • Roll dough to about ½-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut circles. Re-roll scraps to make more biscuits. Keep edges clean for even rising.

Place on Baking Sheet

  • Place biscuits on prepared baking sheet, leaving small gaps. This allows them to bake evenly and rise without sticking together.

Bake the Biscuits

  • Bake in preheated oven for 12–15 minutes. Biscuits should be golden brown on top. Check with a toothpick if unsure.

Brush with Butter

  • Remove biscuits from oven and brush with melted butter. This adds flavor and gives a shiny, appetizing look. Serve warm for best taste.

Notes

  • Use cold butter for flaky biscuits
  • Do not overmix dough
  • Cut biscuits gently without twisting cutter
  • Serve warm for best taste
