Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 and ½ cups water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • A small pinch of saffron
  • 2 tablespoons hot water for saffron
  • 1 bay leaf optional
  • 1 small garlic clove chopped (optional)

Instructions
 

Step 1:

  • Wash the rice until the water is clear. Drain it.

Step 2:

  • Put saffron in 2 tablespoons of hot water.

Step 3:

  • Heat oil in a pot on medium heat.

Step 4:

  • Add garlic if you want. Cook for 30 seconds.

Step 5:

  • Add rice. Stir for one minute.

Step 6:

  • Add water, saffron water, and salt.

Step 7:

  • Put in the bay leaf if using. Let it boil.

Step 8:

  • Cover the pot. Turn the heat low. Cook for 15 minutes.

Step 9:

  • Turn off the heat. Let it sit for 5 minutes.

Step 10:

  • Use a fork to fluff the rice. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use good saffron for better flavor.
  • Wash rice well to remove starch.
  • Always soak the saffron before using.
  • Keep the lid on while cooking.
  • Let the rice rest before opening the lid.
