Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp mustard

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a baking dish or loaf pan. This helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easier later.

Prepare the Meat Mixture

  • In a large bowl, add ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until everything combines well.

Shape the Meatloaf

  • Transfer the mixture into the baking dish. Shape it into a loaf using your hands. Do not press too hard or the meatloaf may become dense.

Make the Glaze

  • In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Stir until smooth. This glaze gives a sweet and tangy flavor to the meatloaf.

Add the Glaze

  • Spread half of the glaze over the meatloaf. Make sure it covers the top evenly. This helps create a nice coating while baking.

Bake the Meatloaf

  • Place the meatloaf in the oven. Bake for 40 minutes. Then remove and spread the remaining glaze on top for extra flavor.

Finish Baking

  • Return the meatloaf to the oven. Bake for another 20 minutes. The top should look slightly caramelized and shiny when done.

Rest Before Serving

  • Remove from oven and let it rest for 10 minutes. This helps keep juices inside. Slice carefully and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef for best taste
  • Do not overmix the meat mixture
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing
  • Add a little milk for extra moisture
  • Use a thermometer for perfect cooking
  • Try mixing beef with chicken for variation
  • Add herbs like parsley for fresh flavor
