Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking during baking.

Cook the Sausage

  • Place breakfast sausage into a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned and fully cooked. Break it into crumbles while stirring frequently.

Prepare the Gravy Base

  • Add butter to the cooked sausage in the skillet. Stir until melted completely. Sprinkle flour evenly over the sausage mixture and stir well.

Make the Creamy Gravy

  • Slowly pour milk into the skillet while whisking constantly. Cook the gravy for several minutes until thick, creamy and smooth without lumps.

Add Seasonings

  • Mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder and paprika into the gravy. Stir everything together so the flavors spread evenly throughout the creamy sausage gravy.

Cut the Biscuits

  • Open the biscuit dough carefully. Cut each biscuit into four small pieces. Spread the biscuit pieces evenly across the greased baking dish.

Add the Sausage Gravy

  • Pour the warm sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit pieces. Spread carefully with a spoon so every biscuit piece gets coated with gravy.

Prepare the Egg Mixture

  • Crack eggs into a bowl and whisk until smooth. Pour the eggs evenly over the casserole mixture inside the baking dish.

Add Cheese Topping

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly across the top. The cheese creates a golden and bubbly layer while baking in the oven.

Bake the Casserole

  • Place the casserole into the preheated oven. Bake for about 35 to 40 minutes until the eggs set completely and the top becomes golden brown.

Garnish and Serve

  • Remove the casserole carefully from the oven. Sprinkle chopped parsley over the top before serving warm for fresh flavor and color.

Notes

  • Use spicy sausage for extra flavor.
  • Whole milk creates creamier gravy texture.
  • Do not overbake the casserole.
  • Freshly shredded cheese melts better.
  • Let the casserole rest five minutes before slicing.
  • Add cooked bacon for extra richness.
  • Use homemade biscuit dough if preferred.
  • Stir gravy constantly to avoid lumps.
